A Brief History of Futures Rehabilitation Center, Inc.

Futures Rehabilitation Center, Inc. in Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania, was started in 1968 under the Bradford Area School District to give people with disabilities a center for activity and sheltered employment. Futures began in the former Blaisdell Foundation School at 150 Kennedy St. Futures soon separated from the school district and became a private non-profit corporation. At that time, many individuals with disabilities were returning from institutions to live in their home communities and many others were choosing to stay at home because more services were available locally. As Futures’ programs expanded to meet the growing needs, larger facilities were needed to accommodate the programs. In 1970, Futures rented space at the current Eagles Club on E. Main St. In 1975, Futures purchased the former Butter Krust Bakery Building in East Bradford on what is now Futures Way. Futures daily service has grown from serving 8 persons to serving over 200 persons daily.
